The avid bloggers of dailykos.com would probably cheer this news. One of the Bangladeshi bloggers, under threat from Islamists at home, has won a journalism prize while in his home-in-exile in Germany.
Blogger Asif Mohiuddin, who is currently living in Germany in exile, has won the Anna Politkovskaya Award for Journalism. The 30-year-old Bangladeshi blogger, who left the country following militant attack and imprisonment for his writing, will be handed over the award at an International Festival in Ferrara, Italy in October this year.
German newspaper Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung and Italian newspaper Ferrara Italia reported on his latest achievement.
The report in Ferrara quoted Asif as saying: "I did not expect to win the award, is a recognition that makes me proud and makes me do my job more and more professional.”
In his reaction upon getting nominated for the award, Asif told Ferrara: "I lost many friends, who were murdered, but others are still in Bangladesh and we continue to feel across the network and the profile Facebook.
“The situation is very heavy. Personally I live with fear as I was on the blacklist of the fundamentalists for which I have shifted abroad.”
Following the brutal attack in 2013, and subsequent imprisonment, Asif is now living in Germany with the cooperation of Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, a group of Bengali in Bielefeld and the Hamburg Foundation for Politically Persecuted People.
Earlier, the blogger won the prestigious The Bobs-Best of Online Activism award.
